Nationaldemokratische Partei Deutschlands, NDPD
The Nationaldemokratische Partei Deutschlands was one of the block parties of the GDR. It was founded on 16/6/1948 and recruited its members from the middle class, from former members of the NSDAP and from the ranks of former officers and professional soldiers of the Wehrmacht. Like all other block parties, the NDPD could only be elected in the National Front and send members of parliament to the People's Chamber, in accordance with a key system specified by the SED. The conforming block parties did not have their own political profile which gave its members the name of "Blockflöten" (block flutes).
