Demokratischer Aufbruch / DA
<br />
(Democratic Beginning)

Movement of the opposition founded in 1989 in the GDR, originating from the opposition work of its founders Rainer Eppelmann, Erhardt Neubert, Rudi Pahnke, Wolfgang Schnur, Edelbert Richter and others. The Demokratischer Aufbruch formed a party. (Its First Chairman Wolfgang Schnur was disclosed as unofficial member of the Ministry for State Security shortly before the elections to the People's Chamber on 18th March 1990 and resigned.) From the beginning of December 1989, the Demokratischer Aufbruch supported a rapid reunification and formed the election alliance Allianz für Deutschland ( Alliance for Germany) together with the CDU and der DSU. In the government of the GDR (cabinet of Lothar de Maizière) it was represented with one minister. In 1990, the Demokratischer Aufbruch joined the CDU.
